History Lesson

We have a great respect for history in our family, our son is a history major, my husband is retired Army with an interest in military history, and so we find ourselves gravitating towards historical sites when we have free time.  You don’t have to go too far in the South to find a Civil War battlefield, and so today we visited Carnton Plantation in Franklin, TN.  Little detail is known about this farm, other than the fact it was a livestock farm as opposed to the many tobacco and cotton plantations in the area, and that it served as a Confederate hospital during the battle of Franklin, filled to overflowing with the wounded, who were faced with a 16-hour wait to see a doctor after coming off the battlefield. This tree is part of the original garden, can you imagine the stories it could tell?
